Best Disc Sanders for Sale Today
Disc sanders are extremely useful sanding machines that can make some woodworking tasks a walk in the park. While most of them are stationary (and much larger than portable ones) you can also find a few good handheld ones at the cost of a portion of the power and disk size, which relates directly to how quickly you can perform a sanding job. There are hundreds of disc sanders for sale so finding the best disc sander for you will, as always, depend on how often and how hard you will use the equipment.
While the handheld ones are perfectly fine for smaller objects and quicker projects, the stationary ones, while bigger, bring with them the massive advantage of a being heavy-duty high powered machines that feature a huge disc to quickly deal with any job and that you can use and depend on all day without ever stopping.
Both of these disc sanders bring other different advantages, the handheld ones for example are unmatched when it comes to coarse grit sanding – ripping out old paint or any other hard material – due to their spinning discs and how well you can place them on the object by taking advantage of all the possible angles of action.
The stationary ones also bring the unique advantage of working for you, instead of you sanding the object, it sands the object for you. Simply place whatever you want to sand on the machine’s table and slowly push it against the disc. If you want to work on some details you can of course pick the object up and place it against the disc at any angle and position you want too – without ever needing to tire your arms by holding the machine itself.
Disc sanders are a great addition to any woodworker that wants an easy and nearly effortless sanding experience. They adapt to your needs, from small objects with curves to bigger flat surfaces, a disc sander has you covered.
I’ve used quite a few myself and while many of them were good, I wanted only the best for my shop. I went on a trial spree and tested a bunch of them from sellers and friends, these are the ones that I’ve found the best when it comes to price, quality and power.

Disc Sander Reviews
An in-depth analysis and opinion of each disc sander seen above. I reviewed both handheld and benchtop disc sanders for sale in the market.
Offering decent quality at an extremely low price, the DeWalt VS disc sander is a solid entry-level choice, much like its competitor – the Makita GV5010 seen below. It features a 6 AMP motor that gives the 5″ sanding pad a top speed of 3700 OPMs, adjustable with the trigger dial. The build quality is great, as we’d expect from the brand, and apart from the nice handle and comfortable grip, the big bonus here is the built-in dust shroud. It wraps around the sanding pad and has a vacuum-hose adapter, making it very easy to simply fit it to a shop vac and eliminate the dust it produces dramatically. Even though it’s missing a bit of power to take on rougher tasks, it still delivers a great package for the price and it’s a versatile tool that you can’t go wrong with, especially if you already own a dust collector to attach to it.
If you’ve been around you know that I love Makita products. All of them without fail bring top of the line build quality which adds immensely to their durability and feel and I have a soft spot for them because they are always powerful beasts as well. This handheld and very inexpensive Makita GV5010 disc sander is no exception, bringing to you a 4.2AMP motor which delivers up to 4500RPM to ensure great sanding results without much effort or time and an incredibly durable ball and needle bearing construction that provides a much longer tool life. The disc has a good size (5 inches) and the build quality as I’ve mentioned is very good, especially when it comes to insulation (they use double-insulation) to prevent it from heating up and hurting you. The overall design is very well thought off and effective, it’s light and very comfortable to use due to the rubberized ergonomic grip. While it might not be suited for larger and harder tasks (would need more potency), it handles easier and simpler jobs very nicely. For this price, it’s a steal.
I’ve only currently started to notice the Hitachi brand on the market and I’ve got to admit I’m impressed by the quality of their machines, starting with this great disc sander. I’ve talked about power before and boy does this thing deliver. It has an 11AMP, 2,560W motor that rotates a big 7-inch disc, it will absolutely take care of any needed sanding task from small to big and from wood to metal. It’s well built with solid materials and it features a heat resistant bearing chamber and iron ball bearings will extend the machine’s life considerably. It has great variable speed controls and a very comfortable and easy to control grip which loops around the sander. Also worth mentioning is how quiet it is when compared to similar sanders, not only is it great on the ears but it also vibrates very little which will save your arms if you work for long hours. For a more powerful handheld disc sander that can handle tough jobs, this is a strong choice.
The Makita GV7000C is like the big brother of the GV5010, it holds all of the same great qualities like having an extremely well built body and as such being very durable, heat resistant and comfortable to handle but it brings to the table a much needed power and size increase to make it able to compete in the big leagues and handle hard sanding jobs. Out of all the handheld disc sanders for sale, this is my absolute favorite one. It features a big 7-inch sanding disc and a potent 7.9AMP motor that makes it go at a maximum speed of 4,700RPM. It’s not everyday that you need that amount of power so it has a nice variable speed setting that goes from 2,500 to 4,700RPM and a convenient trigger lock-on button to make it run without having to constantly press it. Even with a motor like this and a big sanding pad, it manages to remain fairly lightweight and easy to handle. The Makita GV7000C’s most unique and strong feature is the extremely smart motor-over-pad design which offers an excellent amount of balance and control over the machine. It’s potent, smooth and made to last – the very best handheld disc sander I own. Highly recommended.
This Delta Power stationary disc sander brings you ½ Horse Power and a huge 12 inch disc, making it an effective heavy duty disc sander. It has a cast iron base which can easily be mounted on a bench if you want and the whole body of the machine is very solid and reliable, ensuring that it lasts a long time and they are so sure of its durability that they back all of this with a 5 year warranty. It weighs about 79 pounds which is fairly light for stationary disc sanders, making it easy to move it around if need be.
The machine matches good quality with a good price and while it lacks some more advanced features and is not the most powerful stationary disc sander, it can take care of casual to moderate work easily and quickly.
JET 708433 JDS-12B 1-Horsepower 12-Inch Benchtop Disc Sander with Circle Jig and Miter Gauge, 115/230-Volt 1-Phase
Jet is one of my favorite brands of power tools in general. They always deliver top quality machines coupled with a very modern and appealing design and when it comes to potency they deliver enough power to satisfy even the most demanding users. This Jet benchtop disc sander shows exactly why they’re known for these qualities. This is a truly heavy-duty machine featuring an astounding 1 Horsepower motor that makes the hefty 12 inch steel sanding disc pad rotate at incredible speeds but if you ever need to stop it, it does so very quickly with its convenient and effective brake system. It includes a circle jig, a miter gauge and a cast-iron tabletop that tilts from 90 to 45 degrees which are highly appreciated details and a very useful built in impellor and 4 inch dust port to help maintain everything nice and clean. You might be thinking that such a beast of a motor would heat up too much and be uncomfortable but luckily they did so too and solved it, the motor is totally enclosed and fan cooled to ensure a safe and comfortable temperature. Simply put, if you’re a professional looking for a top of the line benchtop disc sander, this is it. An excellent machine with a great price tag that is sure to last a lifetime of service. They’re so sure of this themselves that they offer a 5 year guarantee on it. Perfect.
JET 708432K JDS-12DC 12-Inch 1 Horsepower Open Stand Disc Sander with Dust Canister, 115/230-Volt 1 Phase
This Jet disc sander is a different version of the previous benchtop one but features exactly the same sanding machine with a few added bonuses and differences. First of all, instead of being a benchtop, it’s an open stand disc sander setup which might be a better choice depending on how much space you have and it now includes a previously missing 2-micron filter dust canister. This means that no matter what sanding job you do with it, short or long, your shop stays clean and so does the air around you.
Everything I’ve said about the other version applies, it’s the same incredible heavy-duty 1 Horsepower sander with a modern and smart design that will take on any task you give it. I recommend it just as much as the other one and if you have a few more bucks to spend the newly added bonuses are more than worth it.
My Recommended Disc Sander
The disc sanders reviewed above are all absolutely top notch and while I recommend them all, if I could only pick one for my woodworking shop it would be the JET JDS-12B Benchtop Sander. Out of all the bench disc sander reviews I did, this was the one I wanted to write the most and out of all the disc sanders for sale out there this is the very best. Ever since I bought it I could not be happier with this addition to my collection. The sheer power of this thing makes me smile whenever I turn it on, it turns some tasks into an absolute cake walk (especially those pesky small curved pieces) and it eats the larger beams of wood in the blink of an eye. The JET JDS-12B Benchtop Sander is the unmatched king of all the 12 inch disc sander reviews. If you’re looking for the best disc sander, look no further.
