Best Dust Collectors

best dust collector reviews Dust collectors are easily one of the most essential machines in any woodworker’s shop. Even with high quality tools that offer great dust extraction by themselves, nothing compares to the efficiency that dust collectors give you. By simply attaching a vacuum hose to any of your tools, you can quickly turn a messy and dusty shop into an impeccably clean one that is a joy to work in, plus, no more masks! When it comes to sanding, especially, you need the very best since it’s the roughest activity you can put a dust collector through. I’ve tested a wide variety of them and I’m here to present the models that are, in my opinion, the best dust collectors available in the market. I’ll guide you and ensure that you get the perfect one for you.

Now, there are various types of dust collectors, each made to perfectly adapt to the user. You can get dust collectors for small shops (compact solutions, some even wall-mounted), the regular single collection ones which all have a pretty standard size and the double collection ones that tend to be a bit larger and more powerful.

I’m going to thoroughly review and compare the best dust collectors I’ve tested. I’ll start by showing you a quick comparison of my top picks and you can then read their analysis (and of other competitors that didn’t make the top selection) below. A big thanks to my friend Rob for once again lending me some machines I didn’t have, you’re the best!
Now let’s find your new dust collector!

Best Single Dust Collectors

In my view, these are the top choices on the market.

Grizzly G8027 1 HP Dust Collector

The more affordable solution on the single bag list, the Grizzly G8027 delivers a decent performance at an insanely low price. With a 1 HP motor (8 AMP) that puts out a maximum of 500 CFM (cubic feet per minute) on its single 4″ intake hole, it’s powerful enough to handle one machine at a time fairly well, especially if there’s less distance (duct length) between you and it. The 30 micron bag is robust but keep in mind that it won’t be able to deal with fine dust particles (like a 5, 2 or 1 micron bag would) so the air won’t be crystal clear when you work for a long time. The dust collector’s body itself is sturdy and well-assembled, it will last years of service with ease. As a bonus, it’s also fairly quiet when turned on and super compact and lightweight. If you’re on a budget and still want a solid dust collector, the Grizzly G8027 is a great choice.

SHOP FOX W1727 1 HP Dust Collector

The Shop Fox W1727 is very popular among hobbyists due to its great combination of power and performance at a very inexpensive price. The 1 HP motor (9 AMP) is able to deliver a pretty powerful air suction of 800 CFM on the single 4″ intake hole. Featuring a great 2.5 micron bag, it’s fine enough to filter in even very small dust particles, which means you’ll have clean air in your shop even after long hours of work. The bags are also easily replaced by using the quick-disconnect clamps. It’s well-built while still being lightweight enough to carry around with ease. When it comes to single intake dust collectors (only 1 machine connected at a time), the Shop Fox W1727 is a lightweight, potent choice that will do its job with ease and effectiveness – all at what is, in my opinion, a very inexpensive price.

Grizzly G1028Z2 1-1/2 HP Dust Collector

The Grizzly G1028Z2 is the most inexpensive double intake dust collector on the list, successfully delivering 2-intake performance at a very affordable price. It’s solidly built, as expected from Grizzly, and the 1.5 HP motor produces 1300 CFM suction on the double 4″ intakes which makes it able to handle two machines at a time. Unlike the previous Grizzly model, it has an upgraded 2.5 micron bag which as I’ve mentioned above is fantastic in dealing with fine dust particles, it’s also very easy to dismount and mount again. This thing will maintain your work area and air breathable. At 108 lbs it has a bit more weight than the models shown above but it’s still really easy to move around, like most single bag machines. It’s a solid and effective 2-intake dust collector that is available at a very attractive price, especially if you’re on a budget.

Shop Fox W1666 2 HP 1550 CFM Dust Collector

Incredibly popular for a reason, the W1666 is one of Shop Fox’s best machines ever. It gives you great performance, power and quality at a really mind-blowing price, making it my personal choice for the best dust collector you can get for the money. It features two 4″ intake holes (that branch out in a Y from the main 6″ intake) that have a great 1550 CFM suction due to its 2HP motor – it packs a punch! The 2.5 micron bag ensures high-quality filtration that traps even very fine dust particles, giving you really clean air. The construction quality is also a step above the rest, not only in the assembly but also in the materials. The steel impeller makes sure that the machine keeps running smoothly, effectively dealing with any wood debris that passes through. Shop Fox really knocked it out of the park with the W1666 and made what I think is one of the best dust collectors for small shops ever. With a 2 year warranty to boot, it is, in my view, the best bang for your buck dust collector you can get.

Jet DC-1100VX-5M Dust Collector 1.5HP 1PH 115/230-Volt 5-Micron Bag Filter Kit

Like all Jet products, the 1100VX offers stunning quality and professional performance in a built to last package. From the unmatched chip separation to the complete elimination of filter-clogging, Jet’s trademark “Vortex Cone” really does bring another level of quality to the filtering process (clears 98% of micron 5 particles). The 1.5 HP motor (also available in a 2 HP version) produces 1100 CFM of suction on the double 4″ intakes (or single 6″ intake) and it features a 5 micron bag (easily removable due to the elastic band system) which handles fine particles with ease, especially with the Vortex technology. The machine also comes with the trademark Jet 5 year warranty. Unbeatable in the sheer quality of the performance, the Jet 1100VX is a great dust collector that can endure heavy use for years on end.

Delta Power Equipment Corporation 50-767 1.5 hp Dust Collector

A great value/quality balance and a smart design make the Delta 50-767 a surprisingly good machine. First of all, it features a 1 micron bag which is effective at filtering insanely fine dust particles, ensuring a fantastic air quality no matter the debris it takes in. The 1.5 HP is able to produce a potent 1500 CFM of suction power that is applied to the 6″ intake (that comes with a Y attachment to separate it into two 4″ intakes). That’s a lot of power for the money!  The unique and smart design of the machine makes it very easy to move around without losing any functionality – great job by the Delta crew. The body is sturdy and well-assembled and as a bonus it’s quiet silent when compared to similar machines. It also comes with a free 5 year warranty. Delta positively surprised me with this dust collector, it’s very powerful, deadly effective and the price is a marvel. A truly great choice at an even better price!

Jet DC-1200VX-CK1 Dust Collector 2HP 1PH 230-Volt 2-Micron Canister Kit

The upgrade to the already excellent 1100VX, the Jet 1200VX combines all of the qualities of the previous model such as professional performance and superb build quality and takes it to the next level with more power and a much better 2 micron filter (canister). First of all, as I’ve mentioned in the introduction, heavy sanding can be quite taxing for a dust collector. Sometimes it produces an unbearable amount of debris/dust and they just can’t deal with it. With the Jet 1200VX, I am confident enough to put it through hell. It’s one of the very few I’ve used that no matter the mountains of dust you feed it, it keeps working smoothly and deals with any task like a champion. The “Vortex Cone” technology really shines here, nothing can stop this thing and for a professional woodworker like me, it’s a game changer. The improved 2 micron dust canister is excellent at keeping fine particles at bay which is essential for heavy-duty work, it will keep the air nice and clean. The potent 2 HP motor delivers 1200 CFM of sucking power on the 6″ intake that comes pre-assembled with a Y attachment converting it into dual 4″ intakes. Although it’s super sturdy and built to last, at 127 lbs it’s still easily movable and the size is versatile enough to fit any shop. With a 5 year warranty to boot, the Jet 1200VX is one of my go-to dust collectors due to its incredible performance, excellent effectiveness and its ability to take on very hard tasks.

Powermatic PM1300TX-CK Dust Collector 1.75HP 1PH 115/230-Volt 2-Micron Canister Kit

If you’ve been here before, you already know how much I love Powermatic. They are one of the few brands I fully trust and can rely on no matter what, they’re that good. The PM1300TX dust collector doesn’t disappoint and shows yet again why they are the “golden standard”. Apart from the machine being absolutely beautiful on the outside, the insides match the exterior – it’s powerful, sturdy and carefully constructed. With a strong 1.75 HP motor, it’s able to put out 1064 CFM on the 6″ intake which comes pre-assembled with a Y of two 4″ intakes. Any tools I’ve used it with, from table-saws to sanders, have been handled perfectly with its suction even in highly messy tasks. No matter the debris, big or small, it will keep running without stopping to make your work area clean and your air breathable. This is due to its highly effective 2 micron filter container (it catches even very fine dust particles) and also due to the “Turbo Cone” (similar to the Vortex Cone by Jet), which keeps it from ever clogging up. The control panel is a beauty to use and you can place it wherever you want, the bag is also extremely easy to clean up due to its unique mounting system. When it comes to the body, it’s built like a tank as I’ve come to expect from Powermatic and comes with a 5 year waranty. With a fair price to boot, the PM1300TX is a fantastic dust collector that offers you the classic and highly appreciated values of a Powermatic machine and with good care it will last a lifetime of service. There’s a model that is slightly more expensive but comes with a great remote control, that’s the only difference so you can go with it if it suits your needs.

Grizzly G0441 3 HP Cyclone Dust Collector

The Grizzly G0441 stays true to the brand name – it’s a beast. A very powerful one. With a potent 3HP motor, it runs at a stunning 1654 CFM of sucking power on a big 8″ intake (which you can adapt into a variety of branching intakes), that’s true power. The cyclone system ensures that the bigger debris gets sent down into the 55 gallon steel drum while the finer particles go up and get caught by the mind-blowingly efficient filter that traps 99.9% of particles from 0.2 to 2 microns in size. That means that not even the incredibly fine particles will escape, your air will be crystal-clear no matter what type of task you perform. The quality of both the materials and the construction is excellent, as expected from a professional-grade machine. It also has advanced features such as reduced vibration, timed shut-down, 360° blower rotation so you can easily connect it to a duct system and even a remote control device. The performance is exceptional even with several tools and while the machine is fairly heavy it can still be moved around well although it’s powerful enough to be stationary (meaning it will perform well even with long duct length). It’s big, it’s mighty powerful and the dust collection is one of the best I’ve ever seen. The Grizzly G0441 is an excellent cyclone dust collector that I recommend for professionals and avid hobbyists alike.

Jet JCDC-3 3 hp Cyclone Dust Collector Kit

The big bad wolf of single-bag units, the JET JCDC-3 perfectly combines power, performance and modern technology in one elegantly designed, high-quality package. With a beastly 3 HP motor that puts out an incredible 1963 CFM of sucking power, it can easily handle 3 tools at once and endure long ducting with ease. The main intake is 8″ wide and it comes pre-assembled with three 4″ intakes. The filter (which is directly mounted and as such more effective) is superb, it efficiently pulls heavier debris down into the 66 gallon drum while sending finer dust up into the high-quality filter that is able to trap 99.9% of all micron 2 particles all the way down to 0.2 microns. Due to this, it will never clog up and it filters so well that your shop’s air will stay crystal-clear and fresh even with highly-messy activities such as heavy sanding. While this dust collector is bigger and heavier than most of its class, it’s with good reason. All of the materials are of extremely high-quality and durability and the size accommodates for a bigger filter, dust drum and motor. Speaking of which, the dust drum itself is super easy to clean thanks to the quick-release levers and due to its big size you won’t have to change it often which I appreciate immensely. It also has independent casters which makes moving it during clean-up a breeze. The whole machine itself, even if heavy, is still easy to move due to the excellent structure and swivel casters. As expected, it offers you modern features such as a configurable timer with automatic shutoff, a smartly designed manual filter cleaning system and a super handy remote control that controls every aspect of the machine. Coupled with a 5 year warranty, the Jet JCDC-3 is in my honest opinion the best cyclone dust collector you can get. It delivers unmatched quality, performance and technology and from what I’ve seen, it will last years of heavy-duty service with ease.

Best Double Dust Collectors

In my view, these are the top choices on the market.

SHOP FOX W1687 3-Horsepower 2,800 CFM Dust Collector

The Shop Fox W1687 successfully shows that you can get a great machine without breaking the bank, even though it’s a bit too loud when working. This is the most inexpensive double-bag dust collector on the list and it’s a great choice if you’re on a budget. It produces 2,800 CFM with its 3 HP motor and 13″ steel impeller which is enough power to handle 4 machines plugged in at once and also endure long duct systems. It has one main 8″ wide intake that comes with a four 4 ” intakes setup. The filter bags are robust and are rated at 2.5 microns which is good enough to handle fine dust and keep your shop clean and the air completely breathable. The lower plastic bags are easy to remove and clean and they are also cheap so you can replace them whenever needed. Even though it’s a double-collection machine, it’s still lightweight and easy to move around (comes with casters) but it’s also powerful enough to be stationary. The body is sturdy and well-made although the machine itself lacks a few more advanced features and is, as I’ve said, quite loud. For this insanely affordable price though, it’s a solid choice for anyone that wants a reliable, if basic, double-bag dust collector.

Powermatic PM1900TX-BK1 Dust Collector 3HP 1PH 230-Volt 30-Micron Bag Filter Kit

The M1900TX delivers Powermatic quality at a surprisingly low price. Featuring a 3 HP motor and running at 1,754 CFM, it has enough power to use 3 machines at a time (three 4″ intakes stemming from the main 8″ intake). The great turbo cone technology allows it to easily separate bigger debris from fine dust and it prevents the machine from ever clogging up. The two filters are of 30 micron capability which will effectively filter dust but not the finer particles, a hazy atmosphere will still form if you use it for long periods of time, especially with activities such as sanding. It shines on the construction quality though, it’s super durable and highly refined in every aspect, even the detailing. At about 200 lbs it’s still easily movable due to the casters and even if you’re far from it, it’s usable with a remote control (included). Although it’s their most basic double-collector model, it’s still a solid machine at a budget price (for a Powermatic machine).

Grizzly G0672 Industrial Dust Collector, 5 HP

The Grizzly G0672 is a powerhouse. With a super potent 5 HP motor that is able to put out an insane 3961 CFMs of sucking power, this thing is a monster that will take on any task you throw at it no matter the difficulty. It features a huge 10″ main intake that comes pre-assembled with a manifold turning it into four 4″ intakes. As such, it can easily handle 4 machines at a time, even if they’re bringing highly messy debris or are far way (long-ducting). With a great 2.5 micron filter, it will trap bigger debris and filter fine dust particles to ensure a clean atmosphere and breathable air in your shop. The debris bags are robust, easy to clean and cheap to replace if needed. At 320 lbs it’s heavy due to the sturdy materials used on its body and the big motor. It’s still easy to move due to the great moving structure (with casters) but I use this baby as a stationary since it has mountains of power. Coupled with an attractive price-tag, the G0672 is sure to please demanding professionals that want a classic but super-potent dust collector.

Powermatic PM1900TX-CK1 Dust Collector 3HP 1PH 230-Volt 2-Micron Canister Kit

Here it is, the upgraded version of the already great Powermatic machine shown before. It has all the qualities of the other model such as superb build-quality, “turbo cone” technology and remote controlled timer while improving the filtering (2 micron instead of 30), the CFM and offering a much larger capacity. With 3 HP motor below the hood, it produces 1,782 CFM of sucking power. It has a main 8″ intake split into three 4″ intakes, as such it’s capable of easily handling 3 machines at a time. The filtering canisters are fantastically sturdy and effective, their capacity to deal with very fine dust particles is outstanding and that shows when you use it – you’ll always have clean air. Changing the bags is a breeze and so is moving it around (even at 260 lbs) due to the swivel casters design. The detailing and finishing is excellent, every little detail from the assembly to the design and paint finish is done meticulously which makes it a beauty to look at in your shop. You also get an infrared remote control so you can use it at a distance which is always appreciated. Like all Powermatic items, it has their trademark 5 year warranty. All in all it’s a professional-grade machine in every way, from the performance to the quality it irradiates excellence. Definitely recommended.

Grizzly G0637 3-Phase Cyclone Dust Collector

The Grizzly team just goes above and beyond to deliver another excellent cyclone dust collector, this one even more monstrously powerful than the last. With a ridiculously potent 7.5 HP motor this thing can move mountains with its 3468 CFM of sucking power, I bet the guys at Grizzly were grinning with joy while designing this beast. With this much power it can easily take care of any task you throw at it no matter how hard it is even if you have a long duct-system. Coupled with this power you have an immense 10″ intake hole that can be branched out into various smaller intakes to handle multiple machines at once. The double-filters are extremely effective even against super fine dust particles, offering 99.9% efficiency from 0.2 to 2 microns. Your shop will be clean and the air completely fresh. It has two 55 gallon steel drums that are easily moved and cleaned due to their independent casters. To bring the noise level down, it also features an air exhaust muffler which maintains it’s sound at about 84 dB. A machine this large (76-3/4″ L x 60″ W x 139-3/8″ H) and powerful is suited for professionals that have medium to large-sized shops as it’s too big for small rooms and is also stationary (can’t be moved around easily). The body quality is top-notch and made to last, featuring great design, carefully assembled pieces and a great finish. This thing is a beast in every aspect – it’s huge, super potent and heavy but boy is it great. It comes with a 2 year warranty and a remote controlled magnetic switch to boot. If you are a busy woodworking professional that needs a dust collector that can handle a ton of messy work from multiple machines at the same time without failing (and have the space for it), the Grizzly G0637 is in my opinion the best machine you can get.

My Recommended Dust Collector

Out of all the dust collectors I’ve used, the Jet JCDC-3 just blew my mind in not only the excellent performance but also in the extreme level of quality of the machine itself. It’s so incredibly durable that I’m sure it will last me a lifetime and as a bonus it’s a beauty to look at. It’s the best cyclone dust collector I’ve used and I certainly recommend it.

NOTE: When it comes to the best dust collectors for small shops (or the best dust collectors for home shops), machines such as the Shop Fox W1666Jet DC-1200VX or even the double-collection Powermatic PM1900TX (all reviewed above) would be better choices as they are smaller machines, easier to carry around and fit pretty much anywhere.

And that’s it, the best woodworking dust collectors I’ve tested, reviewed and compared. It was a blast to do the testing, as always, and I want to thank Rob one more time for the amazing help he gave me. I wouldn’t be able to review as many machines without him and the beers between testing made it all the more fun!

Also, if you’re interested in more affordable choices that still deliver solid quality, check out the cheap dust collectors list – you’ll find some great units.

As always, thanks for reading and don’t forget to leave your questions and opinions below!

  1. Nice blog. It will surely help beginners to choose the Best Cyclone Dust Collector. The efforts you have put in to create the posts are quite interesting. Looking forward to seeing you soon in a new post.

  2. Very nice review. Thanks!

  3. Hi James,

Your review was the ultimate reason I decided to go with the Jet JCDC-3 and I just got it today. One thing I haven’t decided is whether or not to hook it up to an 8″ duct for as long as I can or if I should just stick with the three 4″ ports and run from there. What would your recommendation be? My shop isn’t all that big (24×16 or so) and I really do not run two machines at the same time. Of course, for my table saw, I do have a overhead arm as well but that would really be the only time I run “two” things at the same time.

Appreciate any insight you may have!

    • Hey Jonas – glad to know I was able to help you find a dust collector! The 4″ ports are a great fit for most situations – they’re versatile, effective and keep the machine handily portable. The 8″ duct solution is perfect if you’re going to work primarily on the same place (work bench or table where you do all the work, for example) or if you’re going to face some really serious debris (as you’d get from a drum sander and some saw work as well), without needing too many machines hooked up at once. That said, I think the 8″ duct is the way to go in your case – you’ll get unbeatable performance and effectiveness while the downsides (less mobility and less machines hooked up at once) won’t really have an effect on you. Hope that helps Jonas, let me know if you need any more guidance – I’ll be here!

  4. Thanks for all the info James. Quick question for you…what is the difference between European cfm and us cfm. I am looking at the jet and laguna dc’s and noticed your comment on how the jet has more cfm but you quote the eu metric for one and the US metric for the other.

    Thanks!!

    • Hey Greg, CFM is measured the very same way, from what I remember, although there’s a small difference due to Metric and Imperial measurements of temperature. In my calculations, 100 CFM in Europe translates into roughly 105.7 CFM in America and vice versa. I could be mistaken, but that’s how I learned the difference back in the day. Hope that helps and have a great day!

  5. Hey James. I have a cabinet shop. Not too big , 3200 square feet. I am needing a dust collector with more cfms. I am looking at the Grizzly 10 hp, 4 bagger. I have a 43″ wide belt sander, sliding table saw, 15″ planer, and radial arm saw all hooked up to the vac system. What do you think?

    • Hey Kelly, if you’re talking about the Grizzly G0673 I think it’s a good fit for your setup. The machine is as solid as the Grizzly G0672 I show above, except it has double the bags and the HP to back it up. I’m sure the 5360 CFMs will make quick work of whatever you throw at it and it’s very affordable to boot. While i’d always lean for the more rugged construction and professional filtration of the Grizzly G0637 or the Jet JCDC-3, the power, simplicity and affordability of the G0673 is very attractive.

  6. I have a 24×28 shop that is just me so I rarely run 2 machines at the same time. I need to upgrade my dust collection

I am torn between the Oneida V3000 with duct work vs staying mobile and going with the JCDC-3 or -2.

I joint/plane and drum sand all of my own rough cut lumber to start a project and build 15 or so pieces of furniture (bars, hutch, table, chairs, built-in cabinets, etc.) a year.

Any suggestions and comments would help/

    • Hey David, hope you’re having a great day! I understand why you’re torn – both of those choices are absolutely great machines. In my opinion, taking into account your shop’s size and your machine use, I’d go with a mobile solution for the added versatility and effortless installation. The JET JCDC’s you mentioned are an excellent choice (truly top-notch quality) but you can also take a look at the Powermatic PM1900TX-CK1 if you want to save some money (fantastic performance for the price). Hope this gives you some guidance and I wish you the best of luck with your woodworking projects!

  7. Thanks for the info. I would be interested in noise also. Which is quieter?

    • It’s my pleasure to help Kevin! When it comes to noise, it depends a fair bit on the power but the quietest units are the JET ones (JCDC-3 is rated at only 76 dB and both the DC-1100VX and DC-1200VX are in the 70-80 range as well, for example) while the ShopFox/Grizzly units tend to be a bit louder (around 87 dB) and the Powermatic ones strike a balance between both (75 to 90). Hope that helps – have a great weekend!

  8. Regarding the jet JCDC-3 what does it mean in the specs (found on website) when it says cfm eu vs cfm us? And how does this jet compare to the grizzly G0862?

    • Hey Dave, great question. The US and the EU use different measuring methods, hence the differing versions shown on the website (be sure to keep this in mind when doing comparisons). The JCDC-3 and the G0862 have similar power and the same intake size although the JET has a larger dust canister, better remote control, better craftsmanship, an easier to use modern design and it’s also quieter, among a few other improvements. The G0862’s price still makes it a solid choice though. Hope that helped and have a great one Dave!

  9. I’m running 2 Pistorius 14″ double miter saws. Will the Jet JCDC-3 handle good dust collection when both of these saws are running at the same time?

    • Hey Donald, glad you asked! Even though miter saws are real debris makers, the Jet JCDC-3’s raw power coupled with its anti-clogging cyclone action will successfully take on the two saws at once and keep your shop nice and clean. Plus, you’ll still have room for one more tool if you want, such as a sander or whatever else you may need. If you’re thinking about expanding your arsenal to something like 4 saws in the future, you can also get the Grizzly G0637 Cyclone collector instead, it’s equally as superb for handling heavy debris makers but will be able to take on an extra tool on top of it all.
Hope that helped Donald, thanks for stopping by!

  10. I have a small shop. Three car garage which the third garage is storage area, & the other two are for cars. To do any kind of work both cars have to be parked across the street to not get saw dust all over them. So all I’m using is a 5gal shop vac that I hook up to table saw to keep from making a big mess. That works about 90% better than before. When done for the day, just use my shop vac to blow all dust into smaller area & then just vacuum it all up. I empty my shop vac every Friday because it is FULL.

Can you make any recommendations of which Air Filtration System should do the job for a small area.

    Thank You for your help.

    • Hey Robert, I do have two great choices for you – the JET AFS-1000B and the cheaper but still solid WEN 3415T. They’re two of the finest air filtration systems I’ve used so far and I can’t recommend them enough. I really have to write a full article on them, I’ll be sure to get on it soon enough.
Thanks for stopping by and have a great week!

  11. James, Out of curiosity, how would you rate Onieda cyclones against the ones you’ve reviewed here? I have been under the impression that Onieda is the king of cyclones. Is this a bad impression? I’ve got a one-man shop with some big machines. 20″ planer, 30″ double drum sander, CNC, etc. I plan 500 bd ft of lumber in one session getting ready to build cabinets and furniture. After planing, the lumber goes thru the drum sander. I will run the dust collector for 8 to 10 hours a day. Is this asking too much for the Jet machine? I don’t have 3 phase power, only single phase. Thank you sir!!

    • Hey Don, thanks for the great question! I very much enjoy Oneida products, especially their dust deputy cyclone separator. Their actual dust collectors are outstanding too (I’ve tried the 3HP Gorilla) and their customer support is probably the best I’ve ever had but I feel that the other options manage to offer better value for the price. Their VS 3000 model which is comparable to the JET JCDC-3, for example, is around $700 more for nearly the same power (although the cone design and noise are different) and with a smaller dust bin. If you aren’t worried about getting the best bang for the buck though, you really can’t go wrong with Oneida – they’re worthy of their superb reputation and they last forever.
Now, with just single phase power it’s an even tougher choice (Jet JCDC 1.5HP or the Oneida 1.5HP Mini Gorilla) but you’ll be extremely well served by either brand. Hope that helped Don – I’ll be here if you need anything else!

  12. It was hard to put down the dollar for the Jet JCDC-3 James but I trusted your recommendation enough to do it. COULDN’T BE HAPPIER. After so many disappointing machines, this one is like the holy grail of quality, can’t believe I was able to work without it. THANK YOU!

    • That’s what I like to hear Jordan, glad to know you like it! It is without a doubt a fantastic dust collector, you truly get what you pay for. Thanks for stopping by!

  13. Well I never thought that a dust collector could be so darn efficient. Bless your heart James, the machine made working at my shop much more comfortable and clean. I got the Jet Cyclone!

  14. An outstanding share James! Thanks to you I was able to make my mind, got the Jet JCDC for my home shop and that great Shop Fox W1 for my dad since his shop’s a bit smaller (it was his birthday!). I was blown away and my dad couldn’t be happier either haha – WL

    • I’m glad you liked them Will, I hope your dad had an excellent birthday! Thanks for stopping by and enjoy.

  15. Thanks for the detailed reviews! How do you think the Jet compares to similar Laguna models?

    • Hey Nate, Laguna has some beautiful dust collectors – both in looks and performance. Their “C|Flux: 3 Cyclone Dust Collector” is the rival to Jet’s JCDC-3, and it’s a worthy adversary. Although they have equal build-quality and Horsepower, I think the Jet machine has an edge over it for two reasons. First, the Jet’s slightly cheaper (around $200 less) and secondly the Jet’s JCDC-3’s sucking power is higher (1963 CFM vs Laguna’s 1624 CFM). They are both fantastic machines (and brands), and their dust collectors are very similar but Jet takes the win in my opinion. Thanks for the great question Nate!

  16. My pop told me the same thing, “The Jet vac is unbeatable!” haha. Time to get myself one!

  17. Just sent you an email with a picture showing my new dust collector in my shop, it’s a beauty! Couldn’t have done it without your guidance, you are truly a great contributor to the woodworking community. Happy new year James, you deserve the best!

    • Just saw the picture and it looks beyond great, the fact that the Powermatic’s color matches your other machines is the cherry on top. I’m glad I could help and have a fantastic new year as well Cooper!

  18. Hey James, a month ago I decided to get the Jet JCDC 3 thanks to your recommendation. The performance left me speechless so I had to come back to thank you! It highly improved my shop and work experience as both the surfaces and air cleanliness are perfect. You’re the best.

  19. Just what I needed. Thanks for the help James, that double Powermatic beauty (the CK1) will fit right in my shop. Always loved their products.

    • Hey John, you’re welcome! The PM1900TX-CK1 is beyond great, you’ll feel right at home when using it, it’s a Powermatic in every way. Enjoy!

  20. I remember when I emailed you about which dust collector to get for my small shop, you mentioned that awesome 2HP ShopFox. I’ve loved every moment with it, runs beautifully and it’s nice to see you put out a quality article to help people in the same situation I was in. Thank you James!

    • My pleasure Kyle, I’m really glad I was able to help. Thanks for stopping by again to share your thoughts, I appreciate it!
