Cheap Dust Collector Reviews
With these thorough reviews, you’ll know exactly what each one of these units has to offer and find the perfect one for you. They’re the pillar of any affordable dust collection system and any of these will ace the job. Let’s take a look!
Starting with the little Shop Fox W1826 wall dust collector, it’s the most basic choice on the list but it manages to deliver the essential at an insanely low price. For its size it still packs a decent punch, featuring a 1 HP motor that produces up to 537 CFM which is enough suction power to handle 1 machine. You can connect any machine with ease to its 4″ intake hole and the dust bag can store up to 2 cubic feet of debris. The bag comes in either 2.5 micron (pictured) or 1 micron, with the latter offering much better filtration but also costing more than the regular. Regardless of which one you go with, they’re both easy to use and clean. The construction quality is surprisingly decent, both the materials and design are solid and it even has effective, easy to use controls (paddle button) although the finish can be sub-par in some units. Setting it up is super easy due to the wall-mounted bracket system and you’ll always be able to quickly take it off whenever you want. With a very low price tag and 2 years of warranty to boot, this is in my view a cheap wall mounted dust collector that’s a good choice if you’re on a tight budget.
Grizzly throws a hat in the budget dust collectors ring with their G1028Z2 and it’s quite the successful bet. It tries to deliver above average power and performance at below average pricing and I’ve gotta say that they achieved just that fairly well. Featuring a 1.5HP motor that produces up to 1300 CFM, it can handle up to 2 machines at once without struggling and it’s an impressive amount of power for the price. While the 12.75″ impeller is sadly made of cast aluminum instead of steel – like in the Shop Fox W1666 – it still functions smoothly and effectively to remove the bigger debris. It has 1 main 6″ intake port that comes fitted with a removable Y which separates into two regular 4″ openings, making it easy for you to attach two common vacuum hoses. The 2.5 micron bag has 5.7 cubic feet of storage capacity and it’s very easy to remove and clean. It also comes with its own portable base, making it a breeze to move around, and the construction quality, apart from the impeller, stays on par with the competition in both durability and design. It also comes with 1 year of warranty. It’s a middle of the road option, even for budget units, in both power and price which might be just what you’re looking for. This is, in my view, a cheap dust extractor that achieves what it sets out do quite well and it’s a solid choice without a doubt.
Moving on up to one of my favorite budget units, Shop Fox’s incredibly affordable dust collector – the popular W1666 – delivers awesome power and great construction quality all at an insanely low price, making it, in my opinion, one of the best bang for the buck choices on the market. Although it comes in two versions – 1.5HP and 2HP – there’s no reason not go with the more powerful one here since they both cost exactly the same. That’s one of the most attractive features of this beauty, its power. Getting a 2HP motor and a 12″ steel impeller at this price is nearly unheard of and due to it this machine can produce up to 1550 CFM, giving it more than enough power to handle up to 2 machines with ease. It has a 6-inch intake port with a removable Y-fitting that separates into two 4-inch openings, giving you versatility, and the 2.5 micron bag that comes included can hold up to 5.4 cubic feet of debris. Detaching and cleaning it is also a breeze. The construction quality is impressive, featuring a durable steel impeller, a steel base and a solid fit and finish. It’s also very easy to use due to the simple controls and it’s equally as easy to move around due to the base’s casters. As a cherry on top, it comes backed with 2 years of warranty which is always appreciated. Overall, the W1666 might just be the best cheap dust collector you can get in terms of sheer value for the price, in my view. I highly recommend it.
Featuring fantastic construction quality and an incredibly effective single-stage cyclone system at what is, in my opinion, a beautifully cheap price, this JET dust collector positively stands out from the competition while still maintaining an attractive price. It has a potent 1.5HP motor that puts out 1100 CFM (also available in a 2HP version that delivers 1200 CFM) which is enough to handle up to 2 machines at once and the all-steel impeller ensures a lifetime of service. It has one main 6″ in take hole that comes with a Y-fitting attached that separates it into two 4″ intakes, ready to use with any common vacuum hose. While the 2 micron canister is already a step above the competition in terms of both performance and durability, it’s inside where the magic truly happens. While most cyclone units have two stages, Jet’s trademark vortex cone manages to deliver the same perks – keeping the filter clean and running smoothly – in a single stage, keeping the overall cost of the machine down while heavily improving its performance and life expectancy. Due to this, you can expect no more wood chips clogging up the filter, sparing you from some massive headaches. The construction quality is just as good as you’d expect from JET, from the rugged materials to the excellent fit and finish, it looks and performs professionally through and through. It also comes with a long 5 year warranty, a great bonus. In my opinion it’s a cheap cyclone dust collector that delivers great value for the price so if you want that cyclone action on a budget, look no further – this is it.
And there you have it, clean air and a clean shop on a budget! Not only will this improve your health but it’ll also improve the quality of your work since it heavily reduces the amount of debris on your surfaces – we all know how annoying and damaging it can be. If you want to build a cheap dust collection system, these units are a must-have and the perfect place to start.
